Totally Flexible
Boarding at The Downs is totally flexible; children can stay in school from one night to a full term. And you don't have to decide weeks or even days in advance.

There is no pressure from us for your child to become a boarder, although pupils who are going on to board at their next school are encouraged to board in their last year in preparation for the move to their future environment.
Boarding at the Downs
Major investment and refurbishment.
As the result of the merger The Downs Boarding House is currently under going a major refurbishment programme. Almost £1million is being spent on refurbishment and expansion of the dormitories and bathrooms as well as the creation of two extensive indoor recreational areas. The boarders will have a large games room and a bright open plan sitting room with a kitchen and computer suite.

The Boarding House
The Boarding House overlooks grass and tarmac play areas, beautiful gardens and the children have access to a further 50 acres of grounds as well as an outdoor heated pool.

Pastoral Staff
The current medical centre will be upgraded and two ensuite rooms created adjacent to the matrons' accommodation so that children can be closely monitered in a homely, child friendly environment if they happen to be ill and unable to go home. Boarders have access to a drop in counselling service should they need it.

Our two Matrons
Our boarders are in the care of professional House Parents supported by a resident team of teaching and non teaching staff with boarding experience. The refurbished Boarding House will have acccommodation for 60 full or flexi boarders.
Boarding has to be appealing to children, and at The Downs boarding is very much based on feeling happy and safe, and having a lot of fun. There is a firm but fair routine, time set a side for study, music practice and quiet relaxation as well as regular fun nights and special weekend activities.
