Beyond the classroom

‘The Downs, Malvern College Prep, isn’t just about an academic education – it is very much about living a full life. The extensive hobbies programme, and particularly the Railway, epitomises the school’s attitude that children are capable of anything, if only we let them try.’

Hobbies

Breadth and diversity are crucial to the philosophy of The Downs, Malvern College Prep, and therefore all children take part in the school’s hobby programme on Saturday mornings. Children are given the opportunity to diversify their interests and experiences in activities such as Cookery, Gymnastics, Pottery, Photography, Gardening, Horse riding, Squash, Sailing, Fitness training, Computer club, Chess, Silk and Batik, Rambling, Beach Olympics and Railway Engineering.

Pupils have their say

The School Council
The School Council enables the pupils to have an input into the decisions made in school whether it be regarding changes to current practice or planning new developments. Each year  individual forms elect their own representative. The committee meet once or twice each term to discuss issues raised and time is given for feed back or discussion during tutor periods.
Boarders Circle Time
This is a slightly less formal group discussion session where issues affecting Boarding life can be raised. The meetings are held every fortnight and Boarders are invited to add to the published agenda.
