FRIENDS OF THE DOWNS, MALVERN COLLEGE PREP
'Friends' organisations have existed at both Malvern College Preparatory School and The Downs School for many years and we intend to create a similar organisation at The Downs, Malvern College Prep. These organisations have been operated by volunteers to provide social family events, to enthusiastically support their schools and to finance the ‘little extras’ which benefit the pupils.
The new Friends organisation will be formally created at a meeting on 4th October 2008, and a new committee established. Until that time, we have established an interim steering group which is made up of members of both previous Friends organisations, including both Chairpersons as well as the Head of the new school, Alastair Ramsay. The purpose of this interim steering group is to formalise the Articles of Association for the new Friends organisation, to oversee the smooth ‘wind down’ of the two existing committees and to plan and implement some of the Friends events for the Autumn term. The interim committee will also maintain funds to enable events to go ahead during this period. We have already had three meetings to lay the groundwork for the future.
Members of the old committees will be able to stand for election to the new committee on 4th October if they so wish - as will any other parents/guardians of children and staff members at The Downs, Malvern College Prep. You will automatically become members of the new Friends organisation and, even if you don’t feel a committee position is for you, we hope you will be able to actively support it in a variety of other ways.
